Bosses at London's Les Ambassadeurs Club told a High Court that an international high stakes gambler’s checks had bounced to the tune of £470,000.

Singapore gambler Azam Kolia is said to have once lost £2.4 million in a single night.

Details of the case emerged at a preliminary hearing before Mrs Justice Jefford on Monday, according to the London Mirror.

"There is a history of evasiveness," Barrister Daisy Boulter, representing the casino, told Mrs Justice Jefford.

"This points to a man with the means to pay, who acknowledges that the debt is due, but simply refuses to pay - possibly because he thinks he can negotiate the debt down."

She said: "He has recently made an offer of settlement. The only thing he has not done is paid up."
