It may sound horrible but residents of a Bronx neighborhood have praised a mobster who ordered a local panhandler’s knees be broken.  Say what?

The incident occurred back in 2011.

And, as if that weren’t bad enough, the 73-year-old Genovese capo Pasquale Parrello is also accused of instructing his soldiers to collect a man's gambling debt with an iron fist, telling them, "'choke him, actually choke the motherf---er ... and tell him, 'Listen to me ... next time I'm not gonna stop choking ... I'm gonna kill you.’"  This according to the New York Daily News.

Parrello was just sentenced to 5 1/4 to 6 1/2 years behind bars in an extortion case.

The Court received some 40 letters of character references, one of which told of how Parrello once sheltered a “desperate pregnant cat”.

A lifelong friend also said the mobster was "one of the most honest, generous, and thoughtful people in my life."
