Casino in Touch With Missing Security Guard Tied to Vegas Mass Shooting

Jesus Campos, the Mandalay Bay Resort security guard shot by Vegas mass shooter Stephen Paddock, is reportedly in touch with that casino’s parent company, MGM Resorts International.

Campos skipped out on a series of scheduled interviews last week just prior to air time.  He has not been heard from since.

Campos has not publicly given his account of what transpired when he encountered Paddock.  The gunman smashed a window in his hotel suite, firing upon thousands of individuals participating in an open air country music concert from 32 stories above, killing 59 and injuring hundreds more.  It is now the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

MGM Resorts International issued a statement on Campos’ behalf Tuesday after the Los Angeles Times submitted a request to interview the Mandalay Bay security guard.

“Jesus Campos wants to tell his story at a time and place of his choosing,” spokeswoman Debra DeShong said in a written statement. “He’s asked that everyone respect his request for privacy. We could not be more proud of Jesus.”

Las Vegas police initially stated that Campos provided a distraction for Paddock and thus provided some additional time for those below to make their escapes.  They later said that Campos was shot six minutes before the mass shooting occurred.

While Las Vegas police and hotel officials agree that Campos promptly reported the gunman, the response from MGM has come under scrutiny.
