Bulls ‘Jaw Breaking’ In-Fighting, Big Star Injury Opening Night Likely to Alter NBA Odds

Opening night turned somber when the Celtics' new star Gordon Hayward went down with a fractured ankle.

Hayward was stretchered off the floor in Cleveland after suffering the horrific-looking ankle injury a little more than five minutes into his Boston debut Tuesday night.

The Celtics had the 3rd shortest odds of winning the 2018 NBA Championship entering Tuesday night’s season opener.

Then there was the Bulls player who suffered a broken jaw at the hands of one of his own teammates.

Nikola Mirotic suffered broken facial bones in altercation with teammate Bobby Portis during an earlier practice Tuesday.  He also suffered a concussion.

From ESPN.com:

The players had been talking trash to one another in practice, going back and forth before those exchanges escalated into a physical encounter, league sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. Mirotic charged at Portis twice before Portis threw a punch and connected with Mirotic's face, league sources said. Mirotic dropped to the floor and lay there for several minutes before getting up, league sources said.

Mirotic is expected to undergo surgery.

Mirotic, 26, averaged 10.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game last season, and was expected to start for Chicago this season.

Portis, 22, averaged 6.8 points and 4.6 rebounds last season, and was battling Mirotic for the team's starting power forward spot.

Chicago opens the season Thursday night in Toronto.

Fantasy Rankings Are Now Part of NFL Betting

NFL betting used to be built mostly around teams. Bettors looked at spreads, totals, moneylines, injuries, weather and coaching matchups. Those pieces are still there, but the modern football betting board is much more player-driven than it used to be.
