The highly anticipated poker film "Molly's Game," STX Entertainment, took in $3 million for Week 1 but with a limited run in 271 locations. The film averaged $11,476 and totalled $6,137,582 for the week.
Now accepting most forms of crypto-currencies
With the limited showing, Molly's Game finished 13th among all films this past week in terms of box office earnings. The film will be receiving wider viewing over the next few weeks.
Molly's Game centers on Molly Bloom, a talented skier denied the chance to compete in the Winter Olympics, begins running underground high stakes poker games with millions on the table and attendees the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Alex Rodriguez and – by Molly’s account at least – the “worst tipper”, “Spider Man” star Toby Maguire.
Molly was eventually taken down by 17 feds, placed on a year’s probation and fined $125,000. She ultimately wrote her memoirs for which the film is based off of: “Molly’s Game: from Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street Billionaires Boys’ Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker”.
The film has garnered mostly positive reviews and is nominated for two Golden Globes including Best Actress, Jessica Chastain.
