Phil Ivey on the Verge of Elimination
At 4:30 pm PST, poker pro Phil Ivey was nearing his improbable run at the 2009 World Series of Poker. A miracle was needed for him to get back into the top of the field.
Ivey had 6,800,000 chips, the 3rd lowest number, though he did manage to win a small pot just prior to this story going to press.
17 players remained in the hunt. Gambling911.com was predicting an 11 pm PST finish for this event based on current trends, though of course anything is possible.
Darvin Moon and Billy Kopp have been sharing the top of the leaderboard during the final day before the November Nine is determined.
Moon admitted last night he would be scared to face Ivey.
"I'm going to hide in a corner when I get up against him," admitted Moon. "Everybody that's made it this far has way more card experience than me. If Phil Ivey is on my left and even looks at me, I'm mucking."
Another big name in the tournament bowed out earlier today, Iranian player, Antonio Esfandiari.
