It was an epic story demonstrating the wealth potential associated with the cryptocurrency Bitcoin.  Rapper and entrepreneur told TMZ.com he had recently "discovered" earnings of $8.5 million from proceeds of a 2014 album received in Bitcoin and not immediately converted into U.S. dollars.  Now the rapper is claiming it was all a hoax.

The Blast celebrity news site, citing court documents from his bankruptcy case, reports that rapper Curtis Jackson “never owned, and does not own, a bitcoin account or any bitcoins, and to the best of his knowledge, none of his companies had a bitcoin account from 2014 to the present.”

The rapper has since deleted an Instagram post discussing the forgotten Bitcoin.

Court documents do state that 50 Cent received some of the currency, but that a third party company handled the transaction and that it was converted immediately into U.S. dollars.
