New Sexual Assault Allegations Surface against Steve Wynn

Las Vegas casino and real estate mogul Steve Wynn has been accused of rape from an incident going back to the 1970’s according to a recent report in the Reno Gazette Journal.

This latest accusation of sexual misconduct has been added to a growing list of complaints against the billionaire. A woman came forward to local police to claim that she had a child with Wynn after he had raped her. This was on the heals of another complaint from a woman who stated that she was forced to leave he casino job in Las Vegas after turning away Wynn’s sexual advances. This troubling wave of allegations of sexual assaults against various women forced Wynn to resign as chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts on Feb. 6. This was just two weeks after a Wall Street Journal report stated that several women had come forward with claims of harassment and assault. The article noted that one of the claims resulted in a $7.5 million settlement.

Also contained in this story from the Reno Gazette Journal was mention of the Associated Press obtaining copies of the police reports recently filed by the two most recent complaints concerning Wynn’s actions from the 1970’s. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that it had taken statements concerning one of these cases sometime in January.  The Las Vegas casino mogul has continually denied his involvement in this alleged sex scandal. He continues to insist that all these misconduct accusations are part of a smear campaign orchestrated by his ex-wife.

Going back to the sexual assault complaint from the 70’s, the Reno Gazette Journal details how the police report obtained by the AP shows that the women told the investigating officers that Wynn had raped her on at least three separate occasions from 1973 to 1974 in her Chicago apartment. As a result of these attacks, she also claimed to have given birth to a girl in a gas station restroom. Both the women and the child currently reside in Las Vegas. The second report from the other women claiming sexual assault from this same time frame states that she told Las Vegas police that she had consensual sex with Wynn several times while she worked as a real money gambling dealer at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas. She went on to add that she ‘felt coerced to perform the acts’ and that she was forced to resign after she refused his further advances.

A direct quote from the report states, “In the Summer of 1976, Wynn approached her in the back hall and wanted het to go with him.” It adds, “She told him no, she was done and had someone she was seeing. She was later accused of stealing $40 and was forced to resign.” Given the fact that the Las Vegas police have a statue of limitations of 20 years on crimes of this nature, neither incident is likely to be investigated. A spokesman for Wynn declined to comment on either allegation.
