Marshall is hoping to make it into the Sweet 16 following an 81-75 upset against Wichita State.  The Thundering Herd had not made it to the Big Dance for 31 years.  As a +12.5 underdog on the spread versus the West Virginia Mountaineers, they would pay out just over $60 for every $10 bet on the money line.   SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE

“It’s awesome for the university, but we’re not satisfied,” Marshall guard Jon Elmore said on the eve of the Herd’s second-round game against the state’s flagship program, West Virginia (25-10). “Us being from West Virginia allows us to play with more of a chip on our shoulder and play with that extra edge.”

Marshall would pay $300,000 on a $100 bet if they were to somehow go onto win the NCAA Championship.

But first they have to get past a tough West Virginia team Marshall is more than familiar with.

West Virginia leads the series 33-11, winning nine of the last 10.

The Mountaineers destroyed Murray State Friday night.

Jevon Carter scored 21 points and had eight assists and six steals for West Virginia.

Teddy Allen added 16 points and the Mountaineers (25-10) pulled away in the second half to advance to the round of 32 for the third time in the past four seasons.

West Virginia had four players finish in double figures. Next up: A Mountain State showdown with 13th-seeded Marshall far away from home.

”They’re going to be ready, ready to see a battle,” Carter said. ”Two very good teams going up against each other, in-state rivalry. We’ll see what happens.”
