A Golden Knights Stanley Cup Win Would Pay One Man $120K

Some lucky gambler is going to receive a hefty six figure payout should the Vegas Golden Knights go on to win this year's Stanley Cup.

“When [the Golden Knights were] at 300-1, we wrote a ticket for $400, which pays out 120 grand,” said Jay Kornegay, vice president of race and sports operations for Westgate, in an interview with the New York Post just days before the Knights advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals. “I can’t give definitive numbers, but every book is going to lose a healthy six figures if the Knights win the Cup. Some places are whispering seven.”

It's unclear how many futures were placed at offshore outs on the Golden Knights to win.  Because the Golden Knights are the first major sports franchise to play in the gambling hub of Las Vegas, an unusal number of bets to win the Stanley Cup were likely placed on this expansion team in their first year.

Dave Caldwell of Forbes.com has confirmed another of the early futures bet on the Golden Knights.

Among those who bet before the National Hockey League season on the Vegas Golden Knights to win the Stanley Cup, 99.99% simply wanted the ticket as a keepsake from the team’s inaugural season, says Jim Murphy, the oddsmaker at sportsbettingexperts.com.

“I know a guy who is a big hockey fan and Knights season ticket holder,” Murphy told me this week. “His original plan was to collect a bunch of memorabilia to hang on the wall in his office. Now he’s got a ticket with a potential six-figure payday.”

Even if the books were taking in small stakes, the payout could be extraordinary.

A $20, for example, at 500-1 odds on Vegas to win the Cup, and it happens, the payout would be $10,020.
