Portuguese Americans in particular will be seeking out bookies as their team is so far red hot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.  For the US-based bookmakers, it is prudent to know where the largest concentration of Portuguese live, understanding also that there will be many Brazilian-Americans rooting for Portugal (after Brazil of course).  This is true of all nationalities during any World Cup tournament.  Indivuals with roots in Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe residing in the States may also have a certain kinship with Portugal.

Keep in mind that, when using a Pay Per Head provider, reports can be generated on specific player betting activity.  How many wagers are being placed on games or futures featuring Team Portugal.

Another helpful tip: Know the common last names of those with Portuguese ancestry.

These are the most common:

    Silva
    Santos
    Ferreira
    Pereira
    Oliveira
    Costa
    Rodrigues
    Martins
    Jesus
    Sousa
    Fernandes
    Gonçalves
    Gomes
    Lopes
    Marques
    Alves
    Almeida
    Ribeiro
    Pinto
    Carvalho

Often times, Portuguese last names will sound Spanish but, instead of ending in "ez", will end in "es".  Again, many of these folks will be Brazilian.

It never hurts to ask your clients who they will be rooting for this World Cup.
