Mississippi has embraced sports betting after the US Supreme Court abolished previous prohibition. Casinos are in the process of developing sports books, with some expected to be ready by the 2018 NFL season. Online sports wagering will only be available from a few dozen licensed international sportsbooks, some of which have been in business for three decades now.

Sports betting in Mississippi could result in a $150 million economic boost for the Magnolia State.

Mississippi is located in a region that tends to be unfriendly towards gambling with states like Georgia and South Carolina not even offering casinos. Louisiana, next store, is more hospitable towards gambling. Arkansas and Alabama have a less favorable view of the activity.

MGM Casinos were expected to begin taking bets on July 21.

Mobile wagering will be offered by the casino, but only on the grounds of the property. Wagering from one's home can only be done through an internationally-based sportsbook.
