New Jersey regulators have received five additional applications from gambling companies seeking to start offering sports betting before football season starts in September, Caesars being the latest.

“Everybody wants to be fully functional by the end of August,” David Rebuck, director of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement, told The Associated Press. “We’ll see.”

That deadline is critical for sports books to start taking bets for the upcoming football season.

Golden Nugget is the only other casino that has been identified as having submitted an application.

The Golden Nugget applied for in-person and mobile sports betting, according to its executive vice president, Tom Pohlman.

Currenly Borgata and the Hard Rock are the only sports betting options available in Atlantic City.  Gamblers can also bet online via a few dozen internationally-licensed wagering sites, most of which allow LIVE IN-PLAY betting.  NJ state run businesses do not yet permit bets over the Internet.
