South Philly Turf Club Sportsbook Coming Soon

If you live in Philadelphia, the options for sports betting are becoming almost limitless between Atlantic City, Delaware and now within a miles away at local casino establishments.

Until recently, the only options available to those in the Philadelphia area were internationally licensed online sportsbooks.  Now residents and visitors to the city have the option of visiing sportsbooks on NFL Sunday and any other day of the week for that matter.  They may even be able to bet online via these establishments.

The Philly Turf Club has announced it plans to open a sportsbook.

The location is ideal.  Citizens Bank Park and the Linc are visible from the parking lot of the Turf Club on Packer Avenue.  This just happens to be where the Eagles play.

The parent company of Parx Casino of Bensalem has put down a $10 million deposit to cover sports betting at its Bucks County location and the Turf Club, according to WHYY.

“We’re now reviewing them, doing the background investigation,” said Richard McGarvey of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Current forecasts have the sportsbook opening some time in the middle of the regular NFL season.

“Every casino in Pennsylvania is eligible to get a sports-wagering license,” McGarvey told WHYY. “However, if you have a horse racing track and have what’s called an off-track betting facility, or OTB, that makes you also eligible to use that same license in those places also.”
