Buffalo (-6) @ Rutgers 12 Noon EST 9/22
Rutgers has managed 17 points in the last 2 weeks on offense and YTD are averaging 277 yards on offense and allowing 430 yards on defense, not a recipe for success. Worse than that, Rutgers was beat up last week to lowly Kansas by a score of 55-14, to Kansas! Let that sink in a minute. I could see the Rutgers basketball team getting beat by the Jayhawks by 41 at Phog Allen, but their football team?
Conversely Buffalo has racked up 119 points in 3 games (423 ypg on offense), beat a good Eastern Michigan team last week and also beat Temple at Temple. Frankly, even with the Bulls on the road here against a Big 10 team I have no issue laying slightly less than a TD with them as Rutgers cannot get out of their own way on offense right now. The Bulls have given the Big 10 fits in terms of competing at a high level, they are 5-0 ATS their last 5 games against Big 10 opponents
Tyree Jackson for the Bulls is a solid QB, 65% completion rate and a 12/1 TD to interception ratio so far and at 6’7” and 245 pounds is surprisingly mobile and has a big arm and by far the best QB in this game which goes a long way in college football. Rutgers simply does not have the offense to trade punches on the scoreboard here and Buffalo can stretch the field vertically here and put up some points.
Take the Buffalo Bulls here.
