Denver Broncos Odds Might Not be so Bad After All

When looking at the Denver Broncos odds for 2009, there are a few things to consider betting.

First, one must look at the Over/Under.  Second, because this is such a weak division, winning the AFC West is not entirely out of the question, even with San Diego part of the mix.   They are after all a +400 underdog that would pay out $400 for every $100 bet at Sports Interaction.

Winning the AFC Championship would be considered a far stretch but, for the record, the Broncos would pay out $2000 for every $100 bet.   A Super Bowl win would pay $6600 for every $100 bet.

Denver does have a strong offense and, with the proper support, quarterback Kyle Orton has demonstrated that he can direct his team to victory.

One rival had this to say about Orton, courtesy of the Sporting News:

"Kyle Orton doesn't have the greatest physical tools but he has some things I like.  He got some things done with Chicago (they were 9-7 last season) last year in a situation where he didn't get a lot of help.  They had the runningback but not much in terms of receivers and he kinda held everything together.  That tells me something about him.  He didn't make a lot of mistakes to put them in a bad situation.  He generally gets his team where it has a chance to win and there are other starting quarterbacks in the NFLL that you can't say that about."

Orton is going to have more help in Denver.  This team's main concern will be its defense and, unfortunately, they will make it tough to win more than 8 games.

One week after the Patriots sent defensive lineman Le Kevin Smith to Denver, the Broncos acquired New England offensive lineman Russ Hochstein for a late-round pick in 2010, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

None of this is going to hurt Denver.  In fact, the Hochstein acquisition was enough to temporarily stop betting on the Broncos regular season wins at Sports Interaction, though odds were still listed at Over/Under 7.
