Man Accused of Murdering Player at Poker Game Finally Goes on Trial
Eric Norris is finally on trial four years after allegedly killing a Missouri City businessman during a high stakes poker game.
Donald Leonetti was known as the “King of Shirts” for his popular printing company. He was 45 at the time of his death.
ABC 13 reports that, on July 17, 2014, two masked men with rifles forced their way into the private poker game inside a Stafford shopping center. Police say Norris was one of those men. He was 26 years old at the time. Investigators say Norris and his accomplice stole about $20,000 from the players and fired shots. One of those shots killed Leonetti. Another man was shot but survived.
Authorities say that Leonetti attempted to stop one of the gunmen. Norris was arrested and charged with capital murder.
Prosecutors appealed the judge's decision not to allow Norris' full statement to police, thus resulting in a prolonged delay.
Norris could be facing a life behind bars if he is found guilty.
