The Hokies are currently 6thi n the ACC standings with a 14-5 record, while Syracuse is 4th in the ACC with a 14-5 record. The difference between the two is that Syracuse has a 5-1 conference record, while Virginia Tech holds a 4-2 record in conference play.
Hokies Look to Survive
Virginia Tech has run into a tough part of their schedule, as they’ve faced two ranked opponents over their past three games. After ripping off a 9-game winning streak, Virginia Tech was pummeled by no. 4 Virginia, 81-59. They then went on to beat Wake Forest, but quickly lost once again to the no. 11 North Carolina Tar Heels, 103-82. The rest of their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they are set to face NC State, Louisville, Duke, and Virginia once again after they take on a Syracuse team that upset no. 1 Duke a couple weeks ago.

Syracuse is a team led by the great head coach Jim Boeheim. When you beat a team like Duke, you have proven that you can just about beat any team in the country. However, when you suffer losses to schools like Old Dominion, Buffalo and Georgia Tech, that’s what’s keeping unranked. They still have plenty of schedule left to jump up in the AP Poll rankings with NC State, Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia left on the schedule following this game against Virginia Tech. Syracuse is led by Tyus Battle, Elijah Hughes and Oshae Brissett. The 6’8” Brissett leads this team down low with 13.4 ppg and 7.6 rpg. Battle contributes 17.8 ppg from the guard position, while Hughes ranks second on the team with 15.3 ppg. Winners of three straight games, the Orange still remain unbeaten on the road this season at 3-0.
Orange Great on the Road
With how good Syracuse has been on the road, in a small sample size of course, Virginia Tech has been better at home, still perfect at 10-0. Head coach Buzz Williams has helped lead this team to no. 10 in the country, as they look to get back on track with a win against Syracuse. While Syracuse has three players that average double-digits, Virginia Tech has four led by guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker. The sophomore is averaging 18.3 ppg and also leads this team with 2.1 stpg. The 6’10” junior forward Kerry Blackshear Jr. is the big man down low averaging 13.7 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Ahmed Hill and Justin Robinson both average 13 ppg, as the Hokies shoot the ball very well. As a team they average, 49.7% from the field, 75.9 from the charity stripe, and 42.1% from three-point land.
