Legalized Sports Betting One Step Closer in Indiana, Connecticut Hearing Still Going

Indiana has gotten one step closer to allowing sports wagering, including online.

The Indiana Senate approved the bill on a 38-11 vote and is now heading to the House.

The current bill, S 552, is a combination of a few measures introduced in the state.

From Legal Sports Report:

The bill would set up mobile sports betting throughout Indiana. Bettors could register for a sports wagering account either in-person at a facility or on their smartphones.

Mobile registration proved key to the early success of New Jersey sports betting. In the Garden State, 80 percent of sports bets were made on a mobile device in January.

LSR noted that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is based out of Indianapolis and that organization is not exactly big on sports wagering.  Certainly we could see a situation similar to that found in New Jersey where betting on the local college teams will not be permitted.  Indiana has some very good college teams both in Basketball and Football.

Meanwhile, Connecticut legislators were still debating (for more than six hours) the feasibility of sports betting and gambling expansion in the state of Connecticut as of 5:30 pm EST Tuesday (January 26).
