A popular Swedish online gambling firm is being investigated by the European Gaming Commission after a customer claims he became a gambling addict and blew £20,000 at one of the company's casino sites.

The Commission is currently looking into whether LeoVegas violated its licensing terms in the United Kingdom.

A Gambling Commission spokesman said: “We are absolutely clear with operators about the rules that they must follow to prevent and protect their customers from experiencing harm from gambling. Where we see evidence that those rules are not being followed, we will investigate.”

The unidentified addict is also said to have stolen funds from his mother to place bets online and was not required to provide identification until after he gambled away the £20,000.  It is claimed that LeoVegas sent the individual up to four emails a day encouraging him to keep playing while routinely offering free spins and bonuses.

In another concerning development, it was learned that the customer had previously been banned from another LeoVegas-affiliated casino last year due to "concerning" live chat session with that website's support team.  Despite having had his account locked, the individual was still able to access and lose money on the LeoVegas brand 21.co.uk.

A Gambling Commission spokesman said: “We are absolutely clear with operators about the rules that they must follow to prevent and protect their customers from experiencing harm from gambling. Where we see evidence that those rules are not being followed, we will investigate.”
