Odds
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the month of May at 70/1 odds of winning the Super Bowl.
They were the long shot to win the NFC South at 12/1.
Bad News
The Bucs received some bad news to start off the month of May.
Defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul suffered a potentially season-ending fractured neck in a single-car crash in South Florida on May 2.
"As we stated last week following the news of Jason's auto accident, our immediate concern was for both Jason and his passenger," general manager Jason Licht said in a statement Tuesday. "While Jason was treated and released in South Florida the same day of the accident, we wanted to ensure that our medical team had an opportunity to perform a thorough evaluation here in Tampa, and that process is currently ongoing."
Objective Achieved: New Blood on Defense
While the Bucs’ defensive teams of the late '90s and early 2000s are just a memory now, new head coach Bruce Arians is looking to create the next generation of great Tampa Bay defenders. The hope is that the team has found multiple building blocks in this year's draft class, which features LSU linebacker Devin White, Central Michigan cornerback Sean Bunting, Auburn corner Jamel Dean, Kentucky safety Mike Edwards, Iowa defensive end Anthony Nelson, and Missouri defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr.
