The slain half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was a CIA informant and ran online gambling websites from Macau, a new report reveals.

Kim Jong-nam was killed in Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Feb. 13, 2017, after two women smeared his face with the deadly nerve agent VX.  The women would later claim they believed to be taking part in a popular South Korean prankster TV show.

He is now believed to have been traveling to meet with CIA agents.  It is not immediately known what type of information Kim was providing as he no longer resided in North Korea.

South Korean and U.S. authorities believe that North Korea was behind the assassination, but Pyongyang has denied any such involvement.

From the Korean Jong Jang Daily:

Kim Jong-nam is described as having maintained links to the North Korean regime throughout his time in quasi-exile and “remained particularly close to his uncle,” Jang Song-thaek.

Jang, also the uncle and once-powerful political mentor of Kim Jong-un, was executed in December 2013.

She also wrote that Kim Jong-un “always resented Jang for favoring his older half brother” to inherit the North Korean leadership.

Jang and Kim Jong-nam were described as having “shared similar ideas about China and economic reform,” which made Kim Jong-un “suspicious.”

Kim also ran gambling websites across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia.  The name of those sites have not yet been revealed.

It was reported back in 2017 that one of the suspects in Kim's assassination, Ri Jong-choi, also ran online gambling websites as well as pornography sites on behalf of the North Korean regime.

“As earning foreign currency became difficult because of international sanctions, North Korea had been seeking roundabout methods of sending workers overseas to bring in cash, and the field that had the highest value was the IT area,” a source told Korean Jong Jang Daily.

“North Korea sends IT experts under the pretext of working as techies in a foreign country. Actually they operate illegal gambling or pornographic sites, engage in hacking or develop games to earn cash to send back home.”
