A new Australian A-League season is due to get underway in a few weeks from now. The format of the competition has changed slightly since last year.

One extra team will take part. Melbourne-based club Western United will make their debut. This is just one of the many changes that Football Federation Australia is implementing in a bid to make the A-League more competitive.

This is fantastic news for fans and punters. We’re not expecting this to have an immediate impact, but we should see sustainable growth over the next few years. In the meantime, all 11 clubs will continue to do their utmost to shine a positive light on Australian soccer. If they are successful, this could attract new players and investors in the future.

Today, we’ll examine the strongest sides in the league and evaluate their squads. We’ll also provide you with the latest Australian sports betting tips for the upcoming season. Can Sydney FC win the championship for a second consecutive year or will Melbourne Victory make a comeback? Let’s find out.

19/20 A-League Predictions

Perth Glory - Glory fans enjoyed the most successful season in the club’s history last year. Tony Popovic guided Perth to 1st place for the first time. What’s more, they appeared in the A-League Grand Final but were eventually beaten by Sydney FC on penalties after a goalless draw.

Popovic has made several new additions to his squad including Bruno Fornaroli, Dane Ingham, and Jacob Tratt. If they play to their full potential this season, we’re expecting them to compete yet again. They’re formidable at home but could improve on the road.

Sydney FC - Last season’s Grand Final winners are one of the strongest sides in the league. Their squad is littered with talented players like Adam le Fondre, Paulo Retre, and Kosta Barbarouses. What’s more, the Sky Blues have won four A-League titles in the past, so they know how to get the job done.

Steve Corica’s team will play in several other competitions including the FFA Cup and AFC Champions League. They’ll be desperate to complete a clean sweep and lift all three trophies. If only it was that easy.

Melbourne City - City fans are confident that Erick Mombaerts can bring the A-League title back to AAMI Park for the first time in the club’s 10-year history. The City Blues finished in 5th place last season, which was disappointing for everyone involved.

However, English footballer Craig Noone signed from Bolton Wanderers earlier this year. The City faithful are hopeful that he can make a huge impact. The 31-year-old winger should create plenty of chances. Time will tell if he can guide Melbourne to the title.

Melbourne Victory - Victory fans have been treated to some incredible performances over the last two decades. The club has lifted several major honours including three A-League titles, four championships, and one FFA Cup.

They finished 3rd last year behind Perth Glory and Sydney. However, they’re confident that they can bridge the gap this coming season. If we had to pick an outright winner this season, it would be Melbourne Victory.
