NBA REGULAR SEASON PLAYER FUTURES

BET BLAKE GRIFFIN UNDER 5 ASSISTS PER GAME -120
BET BLAKE GRIFFIN UNDER 22.5 POINTS PER GAME -115
BET BLAKE GRIFFIN UNDER 7.5 REBOUNDS PER GAME -120

Blake Griffin is beat up physically and is expected to be sidelined until early November with knee and hamstring issues.  Griffin hasn’t played 80 games since the 2013-2014 season and he’s only done it three times in his 10 year NBA career.  One of two things should happen this season:  Either Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey starts to limit Griffin’s minutes or else Griffin will spend most of the year on the injured reserve list.  Either way, he won’t be able to put up big numbers statistically.  If by some twist of fate he can stay healthy it’ll be because he’s modified his game.  If that’s the case, you can look for his scoring and rebounding to drop though his assists could increase under this scenario.  Griffin has improved at passing out of double teams in recent years and he’s put up 5 or more APG in 4 of the last six season as well as the past three.

BET DJ AUGUSTIN OVER 10.5 POINTS PER GAME -120

The Orlando Magic were a solid defensive team last year but ranked #24 in team offense putting up 107.3 PPG.  Augustin is a versatile player and this is a half point or so over his career average but his team needs for him to score points more than anything else.  He should be good for at least 12 PPG.

BET DARIUS GARLAND OVER 11 POINTS PER GAME -120

Garland is listed as a point guard but in his limited time at Vanderbilt he was much more interested in scoring than facilitating.  He averaged 16.2 PPG in his short college career and now that he’s on a Cleveland team that finished #29 in points scored per game they’ll need him to focus on bringing the offense as well as reviving fan excitement.  He’ll have the green light every time he touches the ball.

BET DERRICK ROSE OVER 15.5 POINTS PER GAME -125

You’ve got to give Derrick Rose credit.  He’s reinvented himself as one of the more talented ‘sixth men’ in the NBA and is slated to be Detroit’s backup point guard this year.  He put up 18 PPG playing 27.3 minutes per night in Minnesota last year and although he’s technically a reserve he could be called upon to carry a good deal of the scoring load.  If Blake Griffin (see above) has his minutes limited or misses time due to injury they’ll need Rose’s scoring even more.

BET GORDON HAYWARD UNDER 15.5 POINTS PER GAME -120

Hayward’s best days are behind him.  He benefited greatly from the system in Utah and parlayed that into a big money deal with the Boston Celtics.  He missed almost all of the 2017-2018 season after fracturing his tibia and dislocating his ankle less than six minutes in to his Boston debut.  He was mostly a bench player last season averaging 25.6 minutes per game and 11.5 PPG.  He’ll likely play similar minutes this season and put up similar numbers.

BET LARRY NANCE, JR. OVER 8.5 POINTS PER GAME -120
BET LARRY NANCE, JR. OVER 7.5 REBOUNDS PER GAME -120

Nance has exceeded 8.5 PPG in each of his last three seasons.  He put up 9.4 PPG for Cleveland last year and with their sputtering offense needing a jump start he’ll be called upon to do more offensively this year (see Darius Garland’s writeup above).  He really came into his own as a rebounder last year pulling down 8.2 boards per game.  He’s technically Kevin Love’s backup at power forward but look for him to get more minutes both at his natural position and at center.

BET OTTO PORTER, JR. OVER 15.5 POINTS PER GAME -120

Otto Porter put up 17.5 PPG for the Chicago Bulls last season and many have pegged him as a budding All Star.  Bulls management say that they’re going to ‘monitor his minutes’ but a team that finished #27 in team offense can’t really afford to be too stingy.  Assuming he plays 28 minutes or more per game he could average 20 PPG or more.

Sixers? Knicks? Who Can Challenge Boston in the East this Season?

As the new NBA season gets underway, there is most certainly a sense that the Boston Celtics are the team to beat once again. The 18-time champions really took an “if it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it” policy in the offseason, and it’s hard to argue with the tactic.
