Online Gambling Addiction Soars Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

The government of Spain on Tuesday imposed emergency restrictions on the advertising of online casinos.  This includes promotion via YouTube and other social media outlets.

The current coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a government lockdown that requires Spaniards to remain in their homes.  The country has been hit especially hard by the outbreak.

From EuroWeeklyNews.com:

The new restriction means that gaming companies will not be able to advertise between the hours of 1am and 5am on any media from today until the end of the lockdown (12th April). In addition, any advertising and publicity relating to online gaming outside of those hours cannot offer any promotions, vouchers, discounts or gifts (unless it’s on the home page of a betting/online company). This restriction includes all personalised publicity too, whether it’s via social media channels, or email.

It is not immediately known why those hours were selected.

Most online sportsbooks have shifted focus to their casino platforms after most sporting events were cancelled earlier in the month.
