The 2020 NFL Draft is on schedule to take place April 23-25, which is great news for the sports world. Isolated for weeks with only reruns of “classic” games on the tube, we need something. The NFL is about to deliver. And with time on their hands oddsmakers have come up with a bevy of proposition bets for the upcoming draft.
Clemson has been churning out NFL talent for the past several years while the Ohio State Buckeyes have been doing it seemingly forever. In fact, Ohio State has produced 81 first round picks over the years, tied with USC for the most ever. With time on their hands oddsmakers have come up with an intriguing prop pitting Clemson against Ohio State. The Tigers bested the Buckeyes in last season’s CFP semifinal, but will they have more first round draft picks in 2020? You can wager on that prop and many others at BookMaker.eu.
More 2020 NFL First Round Draft Picks
Clemson Players +0.5 ( -195 )
Ohio State Players -0.5 ( +155 )
How this prop will play out comes down to the last few picks of the first round. Ohio State has two of the top five picks – or two of the top three depending on who you talk to – in Chase Young and Jeffrey Okudah. Many feel Young is the best overall prospect and he’s been rated as such in many pre-draft workouts. Every team could use his exceptional pass rushing talent, but the Bengals need a quarterback and cleared space for Joe Burrow to be taken with the first overall pick.
Young will likely be the second player taken and Okudah is the sharpest cornerback on the board and a sure first-rounder who has been linked to the Lions at No. 3. After that things slow down considerably for the Buckeyes. Running back J.K. Dobbins is the next likely off the board. However, in a draft rich with receivers and defenders, Dobbins’ first round stock is suffering.
I’m not going out on a limb by saying Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons is a surefire first-rounder. His versatility and freakish athletic ability has a number of clubs higher up the draft board salivating over his services. It’s a safe bet to say he’s a top-10 selection and likely in the top five right behind his OSU counterparts. Check off one for Clemson.
After these three are plucked off the board in the first 10 picks or less, things start to get interesting. Both clubs are stocked with talent but fail to match the number of high-end players like Alabama and LSU.
While Dobbins could go late in the first round, he’s widely viewed as a second-round pick and there’s no indication that’s going to change. That leaves a few Clemson players hanging around in the later rounds who are going to win or lose this bet leaving everyone with a monetary interest in the outcome sweating bullets.
A.J. Terrell and Tee Higgins are among the top-32 rated players available in the draft. That doesn’t mean they will be selected in the first round, but if one of them is we have each team with a pair of first-rounders. With Clemson at +0.5 on the board throwing down on them makes you a winner.
Of course we can’t predict what’s going to happen. That’s what makes sports and wagering at online sportbooks so entertaining. Travis Etienne isn’t even mentioned among the top players available despite being the go-to back in Clemson’s high-octane offense. While the so-called experts are never right with their mock drafts, they’re not far off on their assessment.
As it stands I like Clemson to best OSU on Draft Day just like they did in last season’s Fiesta Bowl semifinal contest. Late picks of Terrell and Higgins give the Tigers an edge. Too bad for Ohio State and Buckeye fans the prop isn’t for the highest drafted players.
