D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser says her city isn’t prepared to reopen its economy as Maryland and Virginia prepare to lift restrictions that have devastated business.

“We’re in the national capital region, and in both Maryland and Virginia, cases continue to rise. So, what we have to focus on as a region as economies open up is that we can handle increasing levels of infection,” Bowser said Thursday in an interview with ABC News. “… We think we’re going to experience our surge in cases in May. And that we will see a surge in hospitalizations to follow.”

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan have both said they are looking to restart their economies in May and have already lifted some restrictions on recreation and elective surgeries.
