NBA Talks of Resuming Season in Orlando, MLB to Present Players With New Proposal

The NBA has entered into exploratory conversations with the Walt Disney Company about restarting the remainder of its season at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, in late July, NBA spokesperson Mike Bass told ESPN Saturday.  The remainder of the season was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"The NBA, in conjunction with the National Basketball Players Association, is engaged in exploratory conversations with The Walt Disney Company about restarting the 2019-20 NBA season in late July at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida as a single site for an NBA campus for games, practices and housing," Bass said. "Our priority continues to be the health and safety of all involved, and we are working with public health experts and government officials on a comprehensive set of guidelines to ensure that appropriate medical protocols and protections are in place."

The complex is large enough to accommodate players and staff while preventing the need to venture outdoors.

It remains unclear whether the NBA will play the remainder of its regular season or proceed directly to the playoffs.

Games would be played without fans.

More details were anticipated next Friday May 29.

Major League Baseball and the Players Association are in the second week of negotiations surrounding a return-to-play plan for the 2020 season.  The season has been put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

MLB would likely begin the first week in July assuming all sides can come to a mutual agreement.

Here is what we can expect:

82-game regional schedule and universal DH

30-man active rosters with a 20-player taxi squad

14 teams in the postseason with games played in home cities in October

50/50 revenue split for players and owners

The initial proposal was orginally believed to be a nonstarter at the get go.  A second, presumably more favorable, proposal will be introduced on Tuesday, though details were not immediately known.  Players have already agreed to pro-rate their salaries based on the number of games played.  They have refused to enter into any type of revenue sharing deal.
