Tyron Woodley vs. Gilbert Burns Fight Predictions, Outcome Odds
Experts across the World Wide Web are offering up their predictions for Saturday night's fight between Tyron Woodley vs. Gilbert Burns. For bettors, this information should be especially useful. Woodley was coming in at -160 while Burns is the underdog paying out $14.20 for every $10 bet with an upset victory. There are quite few prop bets for this and the undercard fights listed below.

Action Network (Sean Zerillo):
I expect Woodley to come out with a fire and uncharacteristically look for an early knockout — which could leave both men swinging in the middle of the cage to start the main event.
But he is also as conscious of his gas tank as any fighter in the sport, and his most likely path to victory lies through his preferred style — forcing Burns to come forward while tiring him out with his incredible defensive wrestling and powerful striking from distance — which has claimed five UFC TKO’s.
I know all the cool kids are picking Burns because Woodley is yesterday’s news. I would probably feel more confident in that selection had I seen “Durinho” compete against someone in the Top 5, like a Leon Edwards or a Colby Covington. Granted, his striking has come a long way since he got starched by Dan Hooker, but Burns does not have the speed or the power of Woodley. The question is, will “The Chosen One” actually use it? The Woodley who chopped down Carlos Condit and mummified Robbie Lawler would steamroll Burns. The play-it-safe Woodley who likes to wall-n-stall does not, though I would be remiss if I did not mention that “Durinho” has never been five rounds in his career, something the ex-champ has done four times over the last four years. Remember too, that we are talking about a lightweight who doesn’t diet facing a career welterweight who is built and moves like a thoroughbred. Unless the time off and inactivity, or the self-doubt in the wake of the Usman clinic has made him a lesser fighter, this is Woodley’s contest to lose. His wrestling is better (and neutralizes the jiu-jitsu), he hits harder, and has the kind of big-game experience that Burns has only watched on TV.
Prediction: Woodley def. Burns by unanimous decision
BloodyElbow (Staff Predictions):
Mookie Alexander: Woodley is 38. Dudes can just get old and stay old real fast in sports. Burns offers up virtually none of the same problems that Usman presented. Can he effectively pressure Woodley without eating that bomb of a right hand? That said, if he can set a pace on Tyron then I think it’ll actually unravel Woodley’s cardio, which I feel has largely been hidden as an issue because he has done such a great job of dictating the pace. When other fighters set the tone — Rory MacDonald’s jab, Usman’s volume striking and persistent wrestling threat — Woodley really doesn’t have the tools to combat them. Burns does have a good left hook, powerful combo striking, and if this goes to the ground I don’t think that even an otherwise underrated grappler in Tyron wants to tangle with Durinho. I’m sensing upset here. Every bit the chance that Burns gets laced up, but also every bit the chance that Woodley is on his way down. Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision.
Zane Simon: This is a true litmus test for where Woodley’s head is at after suffering one of the most embarrassing losses of his career. Woodley has tasted defeat before, but Kamaru Usman really took his lunch money. And it seems he left Woodley’s financial and emotional life in shambles along the way. For a fighter whose style evolved to live on the margins of close scored rounds, and a few big bursts of overwhelming power, the fallout could be bad. Still, if Woodley has been able to collect himself, I’m not convinced I see a fighter in Burns right now, who has what it takes to pick Woodley apart. Burns isn’t a dedicated pressure fighter, he doesn’t have a great command of range kickboxing tools, and he’s not a dominating wrestler of overpowering physical force. Is he really going to leap into the pocket on Woodley with combos again and again and walk away the better for it? Or will he find himself where so many others have been, made timid by the threat of Woodley’s power and resigned to a slow paced fight based off a few key opportunities. Tyron Woodley via TKO round 2.
In the MMA Junkie reader consensus picks, Woodley (60 percent), Ivanov (51 percent), Carlyle (57 percent), Roberts (62 percent) and Dern (86 percent) are the choices.
