“We are excited to make history in bringing the first online sportsbook to sports fans in our home state just in time as American sports are coming back into action,” Rush Street Interactive president Richard Schwartz said in a statement.

The online launch gives billionaire Rivers chairman Neil Bluhm first dibs on Illinois’ online sports betting market.

Draftkings and FanDuel, two of the leading brands in the US legal sports betting market, have been shut out of Illinois for at least another year.

What a surprise, efforts to pass sports betting legislation in California have again met an impasse.

Sen. Bill Dodd’s office confirmed to Legal Sports Report that SCA 6 has been pulled from that hearing and now will be addressed Tuesday.

Proponents see the delay as a good sign. If the bill had no hope, it would have died in committee Thursday. Instead, lawmakers hope it can build momentum over the next few days.

The powerful state tribes have mostly objected to the legislation as it is currently written.

The California Assembly plans to adjourn for summer recess on Friday. That means the bill won’t reach the Senate floor until after the Assembly is off.

Legalizing sports betting in California requires a constitutional amendment that must go in front of voters. The deadline for bills to pass through the legislature to make the November ballot is June 25.

It’s possible that the Assembly returns late next week and passes the bill.
