It all started when Asher expressed frustration over a New York Times article on sports betting and the pandemic that linked to offshore sportsbooks, many of which have existed for over two decades now.

A popular pro sports bettor, Gadoon “Spanky” Kryollos, expressed his own outrage....at William Hill and Joe Asher.

Alexander, in an interview posted Thursday, claimed sites like William Hill allow offshore sportsbooks to exist by employing tactics that force true sports bettors to seek out companies that are not afraid to book bets.

Spanky tweeted out Thursday that, without offshore sportsbooks, there wouldn't be a legalized betting industry in the US.

After all, it was the offshore gambling sector that showed up en masse in Frankfurt, Kentucky to stop that commonwealth's then Governor, Andry Beshear, from shutting down 130 online gambling businesses back in 2008.  Had Beshear succeeded, there likely would not be a legalized sports betting market in the US.  Some of the very same advocacy groups that fought Beshear are the very same groups that backed efforts in the States to legalize sports wagering.  Notably absent, representatives from William Hill.
