UFC Odds – UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleinik
Betting options are plentiful on Saturday when the Ultimate Fighting Championship continues its assault on the coronavirus. The 12-fight card for UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Oleinik is headlined by a thunderous heavyweight bout between top-10 contenders. We will get more clarity in the division over the next few weeks, starting with the matchup between No. 4 Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis (23-7) and No. 10 Aleksei “The Boa Constrictor” Oleinik (59-13-1). With a title bout between champ Stipe Miocic and No. 1 Daniel Cormier later this month, an impressive win by Lewis puts him right in the thick of things. Former middleweight champ Chris “The All-American” Weidman (14-5) returns to the division after a brief run at 205 looking to regain the form that lifted him to the top. Weidman has lost five of his last six fights, each by stoppage, since a successful defense of his belt at UFC 187. He faces streaking Omari “Wolverine” Akhmedov (20-4-1), who is unbeaten in his last six fights, in the co-main event. Despite his recent failures in the octagon Weidman opened as a -140 favorite.
While the fights at the top of the card get all the attention, there is always value down the ticket. While he might be undersized for a middleweight, Maki Pitolo (13-5) has the speed and power to compete in the division. He faces Darren Stewart (11-5) as a +127 dog. The biggest underdog on the card is UFC newbie Peter Barrett (11-3), who tangles with Youssef Zalal (9-2) in a featherweight prelim bout.

Derrick Lewis (23-7, 18 KOs, 1 SUB) vs. Aleksei Oleinik (59-13-1, 8 KOs, 46 SUBs)
Talk about contrasting styles, we’ll see it in this fight. Lewis took a more disciplined approach to his game after a loss to Junior Dos Santos. He underwent knee surgery, closely monitored his diet and amped up his training regimen. It paid off with decision wins over Blagoy Ivanov and Ilir Latifi in his last two fights, solidifying his position as the No. 4 contender. Considering his size Lewis is agile on his feet and he packs a powerful punch, evidenced by 18 of his 23 wins by (T)KO. Lewis is a large man and has a hefty weight edge over Oleinik, making things more difficult for the Russian. Don’t expect Oleinik to outstrike his opponent. His best chance is to take Lewis down and go for the submission, something he’s clearly good at with 46 career SUBs. At 43 Oleinik has defied time looking like a man 10 years younger in his last two fights. He’s undefeated in 2020 beating Maurice Greene with an armbar sub in January and getting a split decision over former champ Fabricio Werdum in May. This will be a brawl and don’t expect it to go the distance.

Omari Akhmedov (20-4-1, 7 KOs, 5 SUBs) vs. Chris Weidman (14-5, 6 KOs, 4 SUBs)
You have to wonder how much the 36-year-old Weidman has left, if anything. This could be the fight that puts him out to pasture. The former middleweight champ surrendered the belt to Luke Rockhold in 2015, his first career loss, and has been on a downward spiral since. To his defense the last six opponents have all been top-notch, but getting KO’d in five of them is cause for concern. Lasting all of 103 seconds before getting dropped by Dominick Reyes in his last outing proved the move to light heavyweight was a disaster. Akhmedov is a notch below recent competition but still a formidable opponent. He hasn’t lost in six fights going the distance in all of them. He tamed the wildness that was prevalent in his game early in his career and has become a well-rounded fighter. Weidman is well aware of his recent slump and desperately needs a win to silence critics. However, it’s hard to have faith and Akhmedov at plus-odds is a good deal.
