Online wagering website betED.com has announced published odds on the upcoming Miss World 2009 competition.  They are among the first of the US-facing online bookmakers to do so (betED.com does take action from all over the world accept for Canadians).

Miss World 2009, the 59th Miss World pageant, will be held on December 12, 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 12, 2009.[ 112 contestants from all over the world are competing for the crown, marking the biggest turnout in the pageant's history. Miss World 2008, Ksenia Sukhinova of Russia will crown her successor at the end of this event.

The Miss World competition is among the most bet on events in the world and one of two heavily bet on beauty pageants, the other being Miss Universe.

Jennifer Colon, the current Miss Puerto Rico or "Miss Mundo de Puerto Rico," is at +115 in Miss World Betting Odds to win the Dec. 12 contest.

Miss Mexico is next at +350 while Miss South Africa is at +500.

Miss USA is at +1800 and Miss Canada is at +9000.

The long shots are Miss Mongolia, Miss Nepal, Miss Swaziland, Miss Zambia and Miss Zimbabwe - al at +15000.

Colon was crowned Miss Mexico on July 23 by outgoing titleholder Ivonne Orsini, who was a semifinalist at the Miss World 2008 pageant.

Last year's pageant was also held in South Africa, although that was not the original location chosen for the event. It was supposed to take place in Kiev, Ukraine, but the Miss World Organization decided to move it because of the ongoing conflict between Russia and Georgia.
