Matt Gaetz Sex Probe

Outspoken Republican Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz acknowledged he is under investigation by the FBI for possible sex trafficking of minors, though there is a bit of a twist.  Gaetz claims he is being extorted. Oddsmakers are monitoring this story closely as Gaetz is widely considered one of the rising stars in the GOP.  Will he stay or will he go?  Gambling911.com has projected a pretty hefty line favoring Gaetz opting not to seek re-election at -200 after he hinted at jumping ship and heading over to Newsmax for a "Tucker Carlson" type gig prior to this news breaking.  And speaking of Tucker, we'll get to him in a moment....

What's The Story?

  • The New York Times reported earlier in the day Tuesday that Gaetz is under investigation for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old female and paid her to travel with him.
  • Fox News host Tucker Carlson invited Gaetz on his show to tell his side and that's when things went completely off the rails.
  • Denying the allegations against him, the 38-year-old said he is the target of an extortion scheme, that he was the one who approached the FBI, and that his father wore a wire.
  • That's when Gaetz dragged Carlson into the whole mess. “I’m not the only person on screen right now whose been falsely accused of a terrible sex act,” Gaetz said. “You were accused of something you did not do, so you know what this feels like.”

Carlson had to explain, “You just referred to a mentally ill viewer who accused me of a sex crime 20 years ago. And of course it was not true, I never met the person.”

Gaetz even went onto suggest co-conspirators might have had ties to President Joe Biden's administration but that "I don’t know if that’s true", adding that "they were promising that Joe Biden would pardon me. Obviously I don’t need a pardon.”

The Fox host said afterwards said this was one of the weirdest interviews he has ever done.

“You just saw our Matt Gaetz interview. That was one of the weirdest interviews I’ve ever conducted. That story just appeared in the news a couple of hours ago, and on the certainty that there’s always more than you read in the newspaper, we immediately called Matt Gaetz and asked him to come on and tell us more. Which, as you saw, he did. I don’t think that clarified much, but it certainly showed this is a deeply interesting story and we’ll be following it.”

David McGee, the lawyer Gaetz accused of extorting him, spoke to The Daily Beast Tuesday night and denied there is any truth to that claim.

“This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Matt Gaetz is apparently about to indicted for sex trafficking underage girls,” McGee said.
