Matsuyama held on after knocking one in the water at the 15th, shooting a 1-over 73 to win the Masters by one stroke.

The payout was $5000 for every $100 bet heading into this year's tournament.  Those odds were cut to 13-1 by Friday.

A five-time winner on the PGA Tour, Matsuyama took control of the tournament with a brilliant 65 on Saturday.

There was drama Sunday when Xander Schauffele closed within two strokes after Matsuyama made bogey at No. 15.  Schauffele ended up taking the first triple-bogey of his major championship career after putting one in the water.

"Hopefully I will be a pioneer in this and many other Japanese will follow," Matsuyama said after the win when asked what it means to be the first man from Japan to win the Masters. He said he hoped "this will open the floodgates".
