As strange as this may seem, North Carolina was among the first US states to legalize sports betting.  You'd hardly know it.  The only location offering bets on sporting events is the Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort in Cherokee, NC.  If you haven't heard of Cherokee, join the club.  The closest city is Knoxville, Tennessee, a full one-and-a-half hours away.

And did we mention that the Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort does not offer mobile wagering?

There is a new bill looking to change that:  Senate Bill 688.  It's focus will be on education.

“I think that we've got to find creative ways to fund what we need for education," bill sponsor State senator Paul Lowe said.

As one might expect, betting on college sports will be allowed.  Don't tell those in Carolina you can't bet on the Tar Heels or Duke either.  That bill would go nowhere fast.

The obstacle standing in the way of mobile sports gambling passing in North Carolina: Will the Tribes go for it?  One does have to ask why they weren't supportive initially.

NY Online Sports Betting By This Coming Football Season?

NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a bill that will bring mobile sports betting to New York.

NY state senator Joe Addabbo estimates that first bets will come in before the end of 2021 and will be fully functional by the Super Bowl.

New York is poised to become one of the largest markets in the U.S. ... after years of opposition by Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The competition might not be what it is in New Jersey where pretty much anyone with a pulse and deep pockets can obtain a license.

A percentage of New Jersey's handle has been derived from those traveling across the border to place bets at the Meadowlands retail outlet run by FanDuel.
