Trainer Bob Baffert is facing two lawsuits from gamblers claiming they lost money lost money due to his "illegal, drug-induced win by Medina Spirit."
Bets were placed in the amounts of $5 to $2,000 on the horse that finished in second place.
One of the lawsuits was filed this week in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California and has four plaintiffs -- all bettors -- that accuse Baffert of "multiple and repeated acts of doping and entering horses into thoroughbred races, including the Kentucky Derby."
The plaintiffs further claim that there are conspiracies between Baffert and other owners and/or trainers to "commit the above-described acts to engage in illegal gambling and/or horse doping through a pattern of racketeering activity."
Also included in the lawsuit are Bob Baffert Racing Stables and Zedan Racing Stables, Inc.
The Kentucky Derby winner is a 9-5 favorite to win this weekend's Preakness Stakes race.
