The good news for the Atlanta Falcons is that they will probably be better than last year - at least in the sense that the team won't have to deal with the Michael Vick fallout. As for the Atlanta Falcons 2008 odds, this team sits right smack at the bottom of SBG Global's odds to win the 2009 Super Bowl....and obviously, the prospects for the regular 2008 season are rather slim...to put it mildly.

Nevertheless, it might not be such a bad idea to place say a $10 bet on the Atlanta Falcons to win the 2009 Super Bowl. At +12500 odds, a $10 bet would pay out $1250 at SBG Global.

Oddsmakers at SBG also believe that the Falcons will win UNDER 4 ½ games. The UNDER is the -120 favorite.

The Falcons are +1500 to win the NFC South with a payout potential of $1500 for every $100 bet.

Both the divisional and regular season win total odds have some value considering the questionable nature of this division overall. We have no idea if the New Orleans Saints will really excel after taking a back seat last season and neither Carolina or Tampa appear to be standouts just yet. We should note that all the teams in the AFC South division are ranked among the lower 50 percentile of NFL teams in terms of chances to win the 2009 Super Bowl, The Saints included.

There are really few bright spots on this team, however, and the odds that they won't be bad are pretty slim.

Surprises are always possible since Atlanta will not be expected to do much.

From Athlon Sports:Looking to right the ship, owner Arthur Blank acted quickly in bringing in a new general manager (Thomas Dimitroff) and hiring a new head coach with NFL experience (Mike Smith). Both are relatively young, talkative, enthusiastic and ready to take on a challenge.

Dimitroff's plan is to "build through the draft and supplement through free agency," which the team took to heart in the drafting of quarterback Matt Ryan and the addition of up to five starters through free agency. Atlanta let several veterans go including cornerback DeAngelo Hall, tight end Alge Crumpler and running back Warrick Dunn. Replacing them will be youth at nearly every position group and a hard-nosed, "straight-ahead" approach on and off the field.

Overall, Ryan was 32-of-52 for 277 yards in the preseason, two touchdowns and one interception for an 80.4 rating.
