Craig Wright Awarded Default Judgment in First Bitcoin White Paper Lawsuit

Dr Craig Wright, believed to be a founder of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin, was awarded a default judgment Monday in his copyright infringement action against ‘Cøbra’. The mysterious company, which operates the Bitcoin.org website, against had previously missed a deadline to respond last month.

This is an important development in Dr Wright’s quest to obtain judicial vindication of his copyright in his White Paper.

Cøbra is no longer permitted to make the White Paper available for download in the United Kingdom per the decision.

The hearing was conducted remotely by His Honour Judge Hodge QC with 50 individuals present.

The judgment was awarded because the defendant, Cøbra, chose not to defend the claim in court. Under U.K. civil procedure rules, the court can award judgment in favor of the plaintiff for failure to appear within a designated period of time.
