Delaware Finds Loophole in Sports Betting Law for NFL Playoffs

Did somebody say "loophole"?

As in loophole big enough to drive a truck through?

As in a Brinks truck full of money?

Government officials in the State of Delaware, which has legal wagering on the NFL, had said earlier that there would be no wagering the third and fourth weekends of the NFL playoffs, because not enough games were being played.

That has now changed.  Delaware law dictates that all NFL betting be parlays of at least three games--no straight bets on single games.

The first two weeks of the NFL playoffs have four games each week--one more than needed for the parlay-betting--so wagering is available.

But because the third week of the NFL playoffs has just two games, the conference championship games, and the fourth week has just one, the Super Bowl, it appeared there woudn't be any NFL wagering allowed either week.

Not so fast.

Delaware head honchos announced late last week that they have come up with a scheme to permit NFL betting during Week 3 of the playoffs.

In addition to offering a pointspread on the AFC and NFC title games,  listing the actual teams playing of course, a third betting line will be offered on a generic Super Bowl matchup and will have a line such as AFC minus 3 points over NFC or whatever.

That will allow a three-game parlay and betting for the third playoff week. Those who pick the conference championships correctly will see their parlay cards still alive through the Super Bowl.

At this point, however, there still won't be Super Bowl betting on Super Bowl Sunday on the specific Super Bowl teams. There's only one game that day and no totals (over-under) betting or first-half lines are allowed.

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest sports betting day of the year in Las Vegas but lonely Delaware will be silent on that day.

Or will it?

With so much money at stake if Delaware's head honchos can come up with another loophole--one that allows some type of betting on Super Bowl Sunday--don't bet against them miraculously coming up with a solution just in time for The Big Game.
