Should he win, the $30 million would represent the single biggest payout at a US regulated sportsbook on a single wager
Famed furniture store mogul, Mattress Mack, real name Jim McIngvale, has placed what is believed to be the biggest bet ever taken by a US regulated sportsbook.
He put down two separate bets Friday on the Houston Astros to win the World Series, totaling $4 million. At the current 10-1 and 12-1 odds offered at two different sportsbooks, McIngvale stands to win $42 million.
Mattress Mack had to once again travel to the neighboring state of Louisiana to place the wagers via his mobile device as his home state of Texas is yet to regulate sports betting.
The $30 million payout from Caesars would be the largest win ever at a legal sportsbook, according to the Houston Chronicle. This book offered the 12-1 odds.
He placed the other bet on the WynnBet app at 10-1 odds.

Last year, Mack placed a $2 million futures bet at 10 to 1 odds on the Houston Astros to win the World Series. That one ended losing.
“Back in June, when the Astros weren’t playing that well, I bet $2 million on them at Caesars at 10 to 1 odds to win the World Series,” McIngvale told our Thomas Somach at the time.
“I also bet $1 million at FanDuel at 10 to 1 odds and $100,000 at Score at 16 to 1 odds and $250,000 at DraftKings at 16 to 1 odds.”
A number of professional sports bettors have complained that McIngvale gets special treatment from the sportsbooks while they get the boot for winning a fraction of what the furniture store owner stands to reel in.
Somach recently offered his theory as to why.
"Mattress Mack almost always loses," he surmised.
