Poker Legend Doyle Brunson Benedict Arnold?
Poker icon Doyle Brunson would know who Benedict Arnold is. After all, they graduated High School together.
Okay, that was an attempt at a very bad joke....a very very very bad joke.
And we at Gambling911.com don't really believe that Doyle Brunson is a Benedict Arnold.
Benedict Arnold was a general during the American Revolutionary War who originally fought for the American Continental Army but switched sides to the British Empire. While he was still a general on the American side, he obtained command of the fort at West Point, New York, and plotted unsuccessfully to surrender it to the British. After the plot failed, he served in the British military. Ironically, the Texas Dolly (Brunson) just landed in London this morning. And, no, Doyle was NOT a general during the American Revolutionary War either!!!!
Brunson will be playing in another online poker room's upcoming tournament...one not connected with DoylesRoom.com.
Doyle, as you all know, is the face behind the uber popular Cake Network-run online poker venture, DoylesRoom.com. He claims to play there exclusively with friends like Mickey Rourke and Nicky Hilton. But offline is a different story now it seems.
Brunson is going to be taking part in the Party Poker Premier League IV, which is sponsored solely by European online poker room, PartyPoker.
This might not be something entirely new. After all, Doyle finished especially strong at last year's World Series of Poker Europe, which technically is the BetFair World Series of Poker Europe.
Brunson said of the Party Poker Premier League IV: "I'm happy to have the challenge of playing against all these great players. I know a lot about many of them but, of course, all the young players from the Internet are very aggressive good players. It is impossible to make a favorite to win this because every player in this field is capable of winning. I feel I have as good a chance as anyone."
Party has been making quite the push in recent weeks to build its stable of professional poker players.
Actually, we here at Gambling911.com think it is great that poker pros who represent certain rooms are free to take part in other sponsored tournaments. And it is also nice to see Party making a resurgence.
The Premier League IV is set to start on February 12th and continue until the 18th. The event has a buy-in of $100,000 so players will be competing to win a piece of a massive prize pool.
Phil Hellmuth will also be playing at the Premier League IV.
