As anticipated, the high tax rates in places like Pennsylvania are now taking their toll on the books that operate there.  BetMGM is no exception and this week they opted to halt their promo offers there and in New Jersey.  In all other states, BetMGM will be stopping their "Bet and Get" promo.

A random check of Google News features various affiliates jumping all over each other to get their promo codes listed.

Michael Murphy, a Wisconsin-based affiliate marketer, says he now has to go through 100 plus pages of content to remove said promos...just weeks before the start of the new football season no less.

Pennsylvania's tax rate is greater than 30 percent.  The rationale behind the New Jersey move is not entirely known as they have one of the lower tax rates: 8.5% and 13% taxes on Casino licensees and Racetrack Licensees.  BetMGM had halted promos in New York State early last month

Murphy admitted to having some advance notice, being alerted to the change on July 27.  But it's a dagger to the heart for affiliates like Murphy and others whose names are not Bettors Collective or Gambling.com....or one of the big local media outlets like Syracuse.com.

They continue to promote "the New York bonus" that supposedly is no longer available.

"From a small business affiliate perspective this is also the only operator that pays us a smaller CPA in PA and NY, result is less exposure," Murphy expressed.

Sports betting affiliates in most regulated state markets must pay a fee to advertise or take part in affilliate deals.  The CPAs remain quite high though.
