Carolina Hurricanes GM Wants Sports Betting in NC, Mass Bill Likely to be Signed by Gov This Week
“[Not having legal mobile sports betting] just puts us behind,” Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Don Waddell told WRAL this week. “We’re behind because of ticket prices and sponsorship dollars and all that. It just puts us further behind from a revenue standpoint.”
The House and Senate failed by a narrow margin to get mobile sports wagering legalized in the Tar Heel State. Presently, there is in-person sports betting available at two North Carolina casinos, and another set to open within 45 minutes of Charlotte. Gamblers in the state can also bet with offshore sportsbooks.
The NBA’s Charlotte Hornets also supports legalized mobile sports betting.
Morale and integrity concerns stand in the way of getting a measure passed.
Mass Governor Expected to Sign Sports Betting Bill This Week
Ryan Butler of iGaming Next tweeted out:
"Massachusetts' online sports betting bill has been among the most searched proposals from the roughly 10,000 pieces of legislation introduced in the past two years, according to the state's legislative website; Gov. Charlie Baker is expected to formally sign it into law this week."
The actual rollout could take a while however.

Gamblers will not be able to use a credit card to open a betting account or place a wager.
