Dave Portnoy is a whole lot richer after Penn State bought the rest of his BarStools Sports-branded sportsbook last week, and he's proving to be worth every penny.

Portnoy didn't hesitate getting into his first brawl since the announced acquisition.  And now he's trending on Twitter.

Sports journalist Jason Whitlock and Portnoy it appears got into a bit of an epic spat Tuesday.

It all began with podcaster Whitlock calling Portnoy "a fraud".

"Dave Portnoy is a fraud. He has no core values. No defined set of beliefs. He has no redeeming qualities other than his wealth. Remove his money, and he wouldn’t have a friend in this world."

Portnoy on Tuesday released a full statement "Dave Portnoy is Under Attack".

"Some are beginning to call Portnoy the last great American," the statement reads.  The statement claims that stories are being made up about him.

Penn is buying the Portnoy's prized sports entertainment and gambling company outright, having already paid $163 million for a 36% prior ownership.  This brings the valuation to $450 million.  And, as previously mentioned, we have a very rich Portnoy.

He'll remain the face of Barstool and its sports betting site.

It's not immediately clear where any of this will end.

Can you say "train wreck"?
