Mayweather – Mosley Fight

It may not be the mega fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao, but make no mistake about it, Mayweather - Mosley will have star power and plenty of wagering activity.

The fight goes off May 1 with oddsmakers at Sportsbetting.com posting a -130 line on Mayweather while Sugar Shane Mosley comes in at even odds.

For the last few months, all the hype has surrounded a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao.  As it turns out, Mosley has even shorter odds than Pacquiao did against Mayweather, Jr. (Pacquiao had been listed as the +130 underdog).  That fight fell through following Mayweather's camp demanding that Pacquiao undergo rigorous Olympic-style drug testing.

Mayweather is also getting his wish for Olympic-style drug testing, including blood testing, in his fight against Mosley, who in the past has tested positive for steroids and testified in the BALCO investigation.  He agreed to all testing, including a blood test on fight night. His only stipulation was that Mayweather submit to the same protocol; Mayweather agreed.

The fight was announced Friday and bookmakers were quick to put up the line.

May 1 will be a busy one for the online bookmakers as the Kentucky Derby goes off that same day.  Books that offer wagering on the Kentucky Derby (some still do not) are likely to see record revenue on this day.  The Derby is the single most wagered on one day sporting event in the United States in terms of number of bets placed along with the Super Bowl.  Last year's Kentucky Derby betting traffic just beat out the Super Bowl for the first time ever.
