Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has axed striker Cristiano Ronaldo from the squad to face Chelsea on Saturday as punishment for his early exit during the win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United opened +340 and were now at +245 most books by Thursday afternoon.  Chelsea was coming in at +115.

Ronaldo was not expected to rejoin the club until Monday.  He has not practiced with the squad since the incident.

Though the club claims it backs ten Hag's decision, it remains committed to Ronaldo, referring to the 37-year-old remains "an important part of the squad."

Man United issued the following statement:

"Cristiano will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday's game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture."

Mac Jones Ready for Prime Time But Are the Pats Ready for Him?

Following a sluggish 1-3 start to the season, the New England Patriots are now 3-3 having won their last two games under the leadership of Bailey Zappe.  Initially veteran Brian Hoyer filled in for the injured Mac Jones before he too suffered an injury.  Bailey is being credited with helping guide New England to the two victories. He is 51-of-70 for 596 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

Jones is expected to be ready for Monday night's game against Chicago after sitting out three games with a high left ankle sprain he suffered Sept. 25.

Coach Bill Belichick has deflected questions on Jones' status -- and his overall quarterback plans -- when asked in recent weeks.

"Hypotheticals and all that, I'm going to stay away from those," Belichick said Wednesday. "We'll see what we are actually dealing with here as we go forward."

The line on this game has trended from New England -7 to -8 over the course of this week.
