Line on Coastal Carolina vs. UVA Drops Nearly 2 Points in Wake of Shootings

As of Tuesday it did not appear as if the Coastal Carolina vs. Virginia college football game will be cancelled Saturday following the shooting deaths of three players overnight on Sunday.  This one is slated to be broadcast on ESPN3 at 3:30 pm ET and should receive a solid viewership and decent amount of betting activity as folks tune in to watch tributes to those players.  The line on this game had dropped from Coastal Carolina +3.5 to +1 throughout the day Monday.

Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler and D’Sean Perry were fatally shot Sunday night after they returned from a class trip.  The school had been on lockdown most of the morning Monday.

Two other students were injured, one critically, Virginia President Jim Ryan said.

Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., a 22-year-old former member of the football team, was later apprehended.  He is suspected of killing the three players.

“They touched us, inspired us and worked incredibly hard,” head football coach Tony Elliott said in a statement.

The FTX Blood Bath Continues

When your Chief Regulatory Officer was once caught up in a massive online poker cheating scandal, you might want to think twice about investing heavily in that particular platform.  In this case, we are talking about the FTX crypto exchange, which filed for bankruptcy over the weekend.  Withdrawals have also been stopped.

Daniel Friedberg was an attorney for UltimateBet and served as Chief Regulatory Officer for FTX since 2020. CoinGeek had reported on this connection over a year ago.

Friedberg was allegedly overheard in an audio tape released in 2013 "actively conspiring with the other principals in attendance to (a) publicly obfuscate the source of the cheating, (b) minimize the amount of restitution made to players, and (c) force shareholders to shoulder most of the bill," writes Steven Stradbrooke of CoinGeek.

Ikigai Asset Management was among those whose firms whose clients are now adversely affected.

"Unfortunately, I have some pretty bad news to share," Travis Kling tweeted out Tuesday. "Last week Ikigai was caught up in the FTX collapse. We had a large majority of the hedge fund’s total assets on FTX. By the time we went to withdraw Monday mrng, we got very little out. We’re now stuck alongside everyone else."
