Bedlam Series 2022 Betting Preview: Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma
This year's Bedlam Series will have the Sooners (5-5 Straight Up, 3-7 Against The Spread) as a -7.5 favorite despite Oklahoma State having the better record (7-3 Straight Up, 6-4 Against The Spread).
The rivalry dates back to 1910 and has been played since that time without interruption. Both schools had previously been members of the Big Eight Conference before the formation of the Big 12 Conference in 1996.
The Sooners have gone 16-3 Straight Up over the Cowboys in the last nineteen years. The Cowboys did go 5-3 for a stretch from 1995 to 2002, but otherwise the Sooners have dominated the series. Oklahoma State did win last season, 37-33.
Home field advantage has had little impact on this rivalry in recent years. As such we get a number of 0.23 for the Sooners. That indicates an overlay of 7.5.
With a line that has moved from Oklahoma -6 to -7.5 and the overlay, the best comparables might be Wisconsin -6.5 to -7.5 to -7 vs. MSU, which featured an overlay of 4 to 5 points in the line range of 6.5/7/7.5. The home dog Michigan did cover and win in this one. The difference here is that the road team was favored.
James Madison +8 to +7 to +6.5 (closing only) vs. App State is another comparable with the dog James Madison also covering and an overlay of as much as 4.5. This one had the road team as a dog but the line coming downward.
Overlays have had more success for the dogs with a line closer to the number 3.
