Saudi Arabia Was a +1900 Underdog Versus Argentina in World Cup Game

Saudi Arabia have defeated Argentina Tuesday in Qatar in what was one of the biggest upsets ever in a World Cup.

The Saudis had been +1600 underdogs, paying out $1600 for every $100 bet to those who backed the massive dogs.

Argentina came into this year's World Cup as the South American champion and one of the tournament favorites to win it all.

Instead, the team was dealt a 2-1 loss against Saudi Arabia.

Argentina star Lionel Messi is yet to win a major title.  He appeared deflated at the end of this match.

“Prior to the match we were anointed as favorites,” Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said. “But this sort of stuff can happen in a World Cup.”

It's not the first time Argentina has been stunned by a huge underdog in a World Cup. Cameroon’s 1-0 win over an Argentina team led by Diego Maradona in the opening game of the 1990 World Cup was among the tournament's biggest upsets while Senegal also shocked titleholder France 1-0 in the 2002 World Cup.

Next up for Argentina will be Mexico on Saturday.

DR Congo has 1 point and likely needs a win to have a realistic shot at advancing as a third-place team. Uzbekistan has 0 points and must win to stay alive. A draw probably eliminates Uzbekistan and likely does very little for DR Congo.
